A 16-year-old boy was killed in an apparent gang-related shooting early Sunday morning and another youth was wounded, Santa Ana police said.

Officers arrived at Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana about 3:30 a.m. to find the boy being treated for gunshot wounds he had suffered in the 2700 block of South Pacific Avenue, said Police Cmdr. Ruben Ibarra.

The boy, whom police did not identify, was later taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead. Another unidentified juvenile was being treated for gunshot wounds from the shooting incident, but his condition was not available.

Ibarra said gang investigators are looking into the shootings.

He said the incident appeared to be unrelated to a Saturday night shooting in the 1200 block of West Pine Street that police believe was also gang-related. In that incident, Oscar Rubio, 21, of Santa Ana was found shot in the chest on a lawn. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police said that no arrests had been made in either shooting.
