A call for hearings on impeachment
Re “Democrats’ 100-day opening act,” April 7
The Times reports that the 110th Congress has produced a blizzard of bills but a lack of laws. In addition, a new poll finds that “nearly six in 10 respondents unable to name anything important the new Congress has done.” One of the measures this Congress has vowed not to consider is something constituents are clamoring for -- impeachment hearings for the president. One of the reasons given is that it would “distract” Congress. The 93rd Congress, which drew up articles of impeachment against President Nixon, managed to pass 649 public laws, including groundbreaking measures. The “distraction” argument is getting old. It’s time to put impeachment of the president on the table.
