Although the Police Commission has until July 27 to decide whether to reappoint Chief William J. Bratton to a second five-year term, the panel’s president said Wednesday he thinks the decision will be made in a month.

Commission President John Mack made the comment in announcing that an April 30 public hearing on the chief’s application will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, 111 N. Hope St.

“For the benefit of the people of Los Angeles, we should be able to conduct a complete and thorough review of Chief Bratton’s past performance and future expectations within approximately one month,” said Mack.
