Actor will plead guilty in crash
Actor Lane Garrison will plead guilty to at least manslaughter in the death of a popular Beverly Hills High School student, his lawyer said in a court hearing Wednesday.
Attorney Harland Braun said the onetime costar of the Fox television drama “Prison Break” admits responsibility for the crash last year that claimed the life of 17-year-old Vahagn Setian and injured two teenage girls.
“We will be pleading at least to the vehicular manslaughter,” Braun said. “Lane’s attitude is, ‘I did wrong, I am going to accept responsibility and take the punishment.’ ”
Garrison was behind the wheel of his 2001 Land Rover when it plowed into a tree on South Beverly Drive near Olympic Boulevard shortly before midnight on Dec. 2, 2006.
Beverly Hills police said Garrison had a blood-alcohol level of more than twice the state’s legal limit of 0.08%, in addition to cocaine in his system. He was driving more than 40 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to police.
Police sought to charge Garrison with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence but prosecutors opted last month for the lesser charge. He will be back in court May 21.
