6 L.A. Unified schools designated distinguished

Six schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District have been recognized as 2007 California Distinguished Schools by the state Department of Education, an honor that recognizes exemplary educational programs and academic excellence.
The schools are George K. Porter Middle/Gifted Magnet, Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy, High Tech High, Nobel Middle/Nobel Math Science Technology Magnet, Robert Milliken Middle School & Performing Arts Magnet and Valley Alternative Magnet.
The schools are chosen from 132 districts in 35 counties and will be designated as California Distinguished Schools until 2011.
