A different Oscar night

Share

New mom 1. Amanda Peet, left, abandoned her husband of seven months, screenwriter David Benioff (“Troy”), for another man. Well, at least for a couple of hours on April 18, when she made her post-pregnancy debut at the opening of Oscar de la Renta’s sleek new boutique on Melrose Place. But surely her hubby understood. After all, De la Renta was the man behind the most important dress in his wife’s life. Quite fittingly, she slipped into another of the designer’s wedding-white creations to flaunt her bump-less bod, as guests marveled at how she could have possibly given birth a mere two months ago. Now that maternity wear is but a distant memory, she checked out the duds modeled by hostess Jennifer Garner, 1. Gretchen Mol, 2. Camilla Belle and 3. Elizabeth Stewart, left, Ben Lee, Kristen Davis, Donovan Leitch and his sister Ione Skye. Looks like the feel-good fashion event (which benefited the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund) worked its magic on 4. Angie Harmon, left, and Amber Valletta. -- JENNY SUNDEL

Movieline thinks young

We have grown accustomed to seeing a lot more of young Hollywood than we would like. Ahem, Britney and Paris. But at Movieline’s Hollywood Life Young Hollywood Awards at the Henry Fonda Theater last Sunday, honorees 5. Katherine Heigl with “Grey’s Anatomy” cast mate T.R. Knight and 6. Bijou Phillips with boyfriend Danny Masterson kept the wardrobe malfunctions to a minimum, making 7. host Justin Long dig deeper for material. Fortunately, he had girlfriend Kaitlin Doubleday by his side, who admitted to helping him find the funny beforehand. Awww.

“T.R.’s advice was to get up here fast enough so the clapping wouldn’t die. Now I’m out of breath because I’m out of shape!,” Heigl said during her acceptance speech for the Superstar of Tomorrow award.

Style tip: Foreheads are so 20th century

Hey, how many fingers am I holding up? Who cares! As long as the latest members of the Mod (Bangs) Squad look good, right? 8. Sophia Bush christened the ending of her TV series “One Tree Hill” with a chop April 19, while 9. Kate Walsh (“Grey’s Anatomy”) showed up at the GLAAD Media Awards on April 14 with her own blunt bangs.

Scene stealers

10. Rumer Willis, left, proved that less is definitely more -- when it comes to both your hair and your wardrobe -- at the Diabless boutique opening April 18. Her new cropped ‘do and barely-there sparkly minidress drew plenty of compliments from her co-workers at Marc Jacobs, who hung out with the 18-year-old inside the tented soiree. For once all eyes were on Rumer, not her BFF Lindsay, or her mom, for that matter -- although she definitely caused some flashbacks to Demi’s “Ghost” era, with a rock ‘n’ roll take on Demi’s famous short cut. The evening seemed to seal her nascent It-Girl status, but Rumer seemed more interested in vying for another title: dancing queen. She busted a move with actress Arielle Kebbel, who also wowed in her sequined mini from the French designer, as did “Ugly Betty’s” Becki Newton. But one garment nobody dared to wear? The striped metallic “Beyonce dress” that hung on the mannequin at the front of the store. Instead, partygoers such as Melissa George ogled from afar, much as they would have if the bootylicious babe had been there herself.

A little pomp and a little ceremony for ‘Heroes’ folks

At the “Heroes” wrap party April 17, 11. series creator Tim Kring, right, jammed with Chris Kelley and the Band From TV before presenting 12. Hayden Panettiere with a mock diploma in honor of her real-life high school graduation. The show’s self-healing cheerleader, who will release an album in August, celebrated by belting out “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette in a cap and gown. Ah, the sweet sound of a girl coming of age.
