The head of the country’s airport authority is being replaced in response to the nation’s worst aviation disaster, a Defense Ministry official said.

Sergio Mauricio Brito Gaudenzi, the president of Brazil’s space agency, will replace Jose Carlos Pereira as head of the airport authority, Infraero, said a spokeswoman for the Defense Ministry, which oversees the civil aviation system. She said the changeover would be officially announced Monday.

A TAM Airlines jet crashed July 17 as it tried to land in heavy rain at Sao Paulo’s Congonhas airport, killing 199 people.
