Other deaths

The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Michael A. Baloga, 21, of Everett, Wash.; private, Army. Baloga was killed July 26 when a roadside bomb exploded near his medical convoy vehicle in Muqdadiya, Iraq, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Charles E Bilbrey Jr., 21, of Owego, N.Y.; specialist, Army. Bilbrey was among three soldiers killed July 26 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Saqlawiya, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Thomas G. Bostick Jr., 37, of Llano, Texas; major, Army. Bostick was one of two soldiers killed July 27 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire while on foot patrol near Kamu in eastern Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in Vicenza, Italy.

Camy Florexil, 20, of Philadelphia; specialist, Army. Florexil died July 24 in Baghdad of injuries suffered a day earlier when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in the capital. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

William R. Fritsche, 23, of Martinsville, Ind.; staff sergeant, Army. Fritsche was one of two soldiers killed July 27 when their unit was attacked with small-arms fire while on foot patrol near Kamu in eastern Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in Vicenza, Italy.

Zachariah J. Gonzalez, 23, of Indianapolis; specialist, Army. Gonzalez was among three soldiers killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their armored vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Cody C. Grater, 20, of Spring Hill, Fla.; private first class, Army. Grater was killed July 29 when his guard position was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 407th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Benjamin J. Hall, 24, of Fredericksburg, Va.; first lieutenant, Army. Hall died Tuesday in Asadabad, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents ambushed his unit with small-arms fire in the Chowkay Valley of northeastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in Vicenza, Italy.

Taurean T. Harris, 22, of Liberty, Miss.; sergeant, Army. Harris was killed Thursday when a roadside bomb exploded near him in Kala Gush in northeast Afghanistan’s Nuristan province. He was assigned to the 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 513th Military Intelligence Brigade at Ft. Gordon, Ga.

Charles T. Heinlein Jr., 23, of Hemlock, Mich.; private first class, Army. Heinlein was among three soldiers killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their armored vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

William R. Howdeshell, 37, of Norfolk, Va.; sergeant, Army. Howdeshell was among three soldiers killed July 26 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Saqlawiya, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Alfred H. Jairala, 29, of Hialeah, Fla.; private first class, Army. Jairala was among three soldiers killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their armored vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Jason M. Kessler, 29, of Mount Vernon, Wash.; corporal, Army. Kessler was killed Monday when his vehicle was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade in northern Iraq. He was assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Daniel A. Leckel, 19, of Medford, Ore.; specialist, Army. Leckel was killed July 25 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in southern Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Stephen R. Maddies, 41, of Elizabethton, Tenn.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Maddies was killed by a sniper Tuesday while on duty in a guard tower in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 473rd Counter Rocket, Artillery and Mortar Platoon in Columbia, Tenn.

Jaime Rodriguez Jr., 19, of Oxnard; specialist, Army. Rodriguez was among three soldiers killed July 26 when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Saqlawiya, Iraq, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Sean A. Stokes, 24, of Auburn, Calif.; corporal, Marine Corps. Stokes was killed in combat Monday in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Wilberto Suliveras, 38, of Humacao, Puerto Rico; staff sergeant, Army. Suliveras was killed July 29 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.
