From Times Wire Reports

A Chinese environmental activist accused of blackmailing polluting businesses was sentenced to three years in prison , his lawyer said. A court in the eastern city of Yixing also fined Wu Lihong $520 and ordered him to repay $5,900, his lawyer said.

Wu’s wife and friends say the charges were concocted by officials embarrassed by his pollution reports.

Meanwhile, Xi Haoliang, one of the last remaining prisoners jailed for opposing the 1989 military crackdown on pro-democracy protests in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, has been released, the Hong Kong-based Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy reported.
