Greed opens door to shoddy goods

Re “Consumers, arise!” Opinion, Aug. 14

It was only a matter of time before our imports from China were revealed for what they really are: cheap goods manufactured with the sole purpose to feed our corporate greed. What is it about our nation that causes us to jump into bed with countries that ultimately cause us harm? Greed, again, raises its ugly head. From buying stuffed-animal toys that contain hair from dogs and cats to jeopardizing our own health to poor human rights conditions that allow us to buy inexpensive clothes, how can we ever trust what comes out of China? It’s going to take decades, if not centuries, for China to change its fundamental commerce and political methods. I’m afraid the American consumers’ desire for cheap goods will not wait.
