Truck driver is charged in crash that killed 3
A big-rig truck driver who slammed into the back of a minivan in May, killing three young siblings, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, authorities said Wednesday.
Jorge Miguel Romero, 37, of Apple Valley is accused of driving at an unsafe speed when his tractor-trailer slammed into the van, fatally injuring Kyle Coble, 5, and his sisters, Emma, 4, and Katie, 2.
He is also accused of being inattentive, not keeping enough distance between his truck and stopped traffic and hitting the brakes too late to stop, prosecutors said.
Romero is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 13.
He could face three years in jail if convicted.
