Howard loses seat in parliament

A week after Prime Minister John Howard’s conservative coalition lost its 11-year grip on power in a landslide election, Howard lost his parliamentary seat as well.
The loss was expected, but it did not become official until the Australian Electoral Commission’s final tally, including all mailed and absentee ballots, showed Howard was beaten by Labor candidate Maxine McKew for the Sydney-area seat he had held for 33 years.
