A federal court has fined a Monrovia landlord nearly $140,000 for trying to keep children out of his apartment complex.

The court ruled Thursday that Robert Krug committed housing discrimination. He must pay the fine to the Southern California Housing Rights Center, which sued him in March.

The center says it had people pose as renters with families and approach the manager of Krug’s 28-unit apartment building in 2004. They were told the owner didn’t allow children.

Krug’s attorney denies that his client discriminated. Craig Mordoh says Krug has a non-discrimination policy and that there are children in the building.
