Harris lifts UC Santa Barbara

Alex Harris scored 21 points to lead four scorers in double figures for UC Santa Barbara in a 63-56 victory over host Loyola Marymount on Saturday night.
Harris had only eight points in the first half but picked up the scoring pace in the second half, when the Gauchos (7-1) made 10 of their first 15 shots and their first five free throws.
Shawn Deadwiler led all scorers with a career-high 23 points for Loyola Marymount (2-6), which is 0-3 at home.
Deadwiler made a three-point basket with 1 minute 3 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 59-56, but the Gauchos held the Lions scoreless the rest of the way.
The Gauchos are off to their best start since starting 8-1 in the 1992-93 season.

Cal State Northridge 69, North Carolina Central 43 -- Calvin Chitwood and Jonathan Heard each scored 11 points to lead the Matadors in the consolation game of the Drake Iowa Realty Invitational in Des Moines.
Eleven players scored for the Matadors (5-1), who bounced back from Friday’s loss to Duquesne by forcing 31 turnovers and making 21 of 37 three-point shots.
The Eagles (1-9) pulled to within 14 points, but Northridge answered with a 17-8 run to make it 57-34 with 5:35 left.

Montana State 95, Pepperdine 89 -- Rico Tucker scored 24 points and Tyrone Shelley had 20 for the Waves (4-5), who led, 45-35, after the first half in the title game of the GranTree Inn Classic at Bozeman, Mont.
Carlos Taylor scored 30 points to spark a rally by the host Bobcats (4-3), who shot 58% from the field in the second half. They shot 33% in the first half.

St. Louis 52, Long Beach State 48 -- The 49ers’ rally from a 15-point deficit in the second half fell short at St. Louis.
Donovan Morris scored 14 points for Long Beach State (1-5). His three-point basket with 5:54 to play cut the St. Louis lead to 44-43.
Barry Eberhardt led the Billikens (6-3) with nine points.

Utah 78, UC Irvine 66 -- The Anteaters were outscored, 35-10, in the last 10:23 to let a 13-point lead slip away at Salt Lake City.
Kevin Bland scored 14 points for Irvine (2-5), which lost its fourth consecutive game despite making 13 three-point shots.
Lawrence Borha scored 16 of his 24 points in the second half for the Utes (4-2).

Minnesota 75, UC Riverside 38 -- Larry Cunningham scored 14 points, but the Highlanders (2-5) committed 21 turnovers and made it to the free-throw line only eight times at Minneapolis.
Lawrence McKenzie had 18 points for the Golden Gophers (4-1).
