Gallery’s goodbye

After 2 1/2 years, Flux gallery in Chinatown will close its doors at the end of the year. But in true holiday spirit, the reason for its closure is a happy one. After adopting their 28-month-old daughter, Opal, this year, owners Lilith and Eliot Rockett have found themselves too busy to juggle creating art, parenting and fronting a gallery. As a fond farewell, Flux will host a holiday party today at which Rockett will sell what she calls “gift-size things”: delicate handmade teacups, candleholders, bowls and vases. The smaller items will start at $30, with most works priced at less than $100. “It just depends how small these vases shrink,” she says, laughing. In addition, contemporary ceramic works by noted artists Patricia Ferber, Phil Cornelius, Tao Tong and Roger Herman and ranging from $50 to $1,500 will be available. Even the fixtures will be for sale, including custom cabinets and tables by Eliot. “Hopefully, whoever buys the tables will let me keep them until we close our doors,” Lilith jokes.
