Musical fusion

CHRIS LEE’S article “The iPod Philharmonic” [Dec. 9] suggests that the new generation of players in the classical world belongs to an age that may have been more involved in the pop world. Having been raised on both pop and classical music, I find it natural to play the Keith Emerson Piano Concerto weeks after the Rachmaninoff Third Concerto and Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto.

Social barriers are being taken down, and all genres and styles of music are accepted. We are decades away now from the introduction of the Beatles in American culture. It seems that when new music becomes old music, it somehow seeps its way into our mainstream culture. Now, with pop and classical composers joined at the hip, I think it would bring about a wonderful collaboration.
