Ernie Chambers: An article in Monday’s Section A about Ernie Chambers, the longest-serving member of the Nebraska Legislature, said a measure that would have divided the Omaha school district along racial lines was overturned by ballot initiative. The bill’s key elements were rescinded by subsequent legislation. In addition, the headline called Chambers “speaker of the Senate.” Nebraska’s lawmaking body is the single-chamber Legislature, and its speaker is state Sen. Mike Flood. The headline used “speaker” to refer to Chambers’ ability to filibuster. And poet Edgar Allan Poe’s middle name was misspelled as Allen.
