Alleged victim awaits day in court

A Sept. 9 article warning homeowners about foreclosure rescue scams told the story of Eddie Baker Jr., 69, a Los Angeles homeowner who in May filed a civil suit in Los Angeles Superior Court against several co-defendants alleging fraud related to his losing title to his home after he fell behind on his mortgage payments and accepted an offer of help.
Baker’s attorney, Cynthia Reed of the Los Angeles-based nonprofit law center Public Counsel, reports that a court date has been set for Aug. 18. In the meanwhile, “the most recent foreclosure of Baker’s property is in a standstill,” she added.
Reed said she had placed several other alleged scam victims -- who came forward after the article ran -- with large Los Angeles area law firms.
