RE “It May Be Time to Hit the Brakes,” by Christopher Hawthorne, Jan. 30: Finally someone has common sense about the dangers of living close to the freeways. I raised my children in the ‘70s and we frequently had “smog days” here in the West Valley where the children were kept in for recess. My whole family was afflicted with asthma.

It is unthinkable to me that the city would allow schools to be built next to the freeways. The freeways are polluted and the public needs to be protected.
