Through the years, Oscar style

Share

CAN we get a little “Remember When” background music, please? Just the right note for “A Celebration of Oscar Fashion,” held Jan. 30 at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills. Fashion show producer Laura Ziskin enlisted 1. “Vogue” editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley to curate the first runway show of classic gowns worn by past Oscar winners and presenters. Talley, the voice of Oscar fashion for the “Road to the Oscar” pre-show Feb. 25, peppered his runway narration with off-the-cuff tales about how 2. Barbra Streisand tripped onstage in her sheer pantsuit, 3. presenter Jennifer Garner’s makeup artist told her to wear the orange Valentino, and Carol Channing was helped offstage because of the weight of her gem-crusted gown. (50 pounds!) Best in show? Cher’s scandalously sheer (for its day) pantsuit that looked even more incredible from the back going up the academy stairs for the show’s 4. finale of gowns pre-worn by Elizabeth Taylor (Edith Head), Cher (Bob Mackie), Keira Knightley (Vera Wang), Halle Berry (Elie Saab), Carol Channing (unknown designer) and Jennifer Lopez (Karl Lagerfeld). All together now: Bravo! Divine! Pure genius!

Oscar nominees take a test run in Santa Barbara

The opening weekend of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival was Grand Central Station for Oscar nominees. Thirty-five O-nodded actors, writers, directors and producers hit SBIFF this year. 5. “Queen” Helen Mirren flew from London to sign autographs outside the Arlington Theatre on Jan. 25, before getting an acting award. 6. “Factory Girl” Sienna Miller stayed warm at the Jan. 24 post party with Jonathan Sedgwick, the brother of Andy Warhol’s doomed muse Edie Sedgwick. He raved, “Sienna made my sister come alive again.” 7. On Jan. 26, Montecito Award winner Will Smith fixed presenter pal Tom Cruise’s hair, since Katie Holmes couldn’t make it. Something about being tired from doing the Paris couture shows.

No SAGging spirits at the HBO shindig

HBO held its post-SAG celebratory party at Spago in Beverly Hills on Jan. 28. No media permitted, so 9. “Soprano’s” alum Aida Turturro, Robert Iler and Catherine Narducci got loosey-goosey. But fuggedaboutit. 10. “Deadwood’s” Calamity Jane (Robin Weigert) and Doc Watson (Brad Dourif) shore cleaned up purty good while 11. Perrey Reeves, who plays Ari Gold’s wife, playfully tousled the hair of “Entourage” agent-hubby Jeremy Piven as only an onscreen wife can.

Ring on her finger, Shah on their toes

8. Jessica Alba checks out not-so-desperate pal Eva Longoria’s engagement ring at a Jan. 23 party at Iconology boutique to launch the new Rickard Shah’s Icon collection featuring his celeb fave peep-toe style that Alba, Kate Winslet and Rachel Bilson just love-love. Sales of the pricey pumps will benefit Alba’s pet charity Keep a Child Alive. Also stepping out in Shah shoes: Haylie Duff and Milla Jovovich, wearing one of her own Jovovich-Hawk dresses.
