Pakistani police arrested six suspected members of a Sunni Muslim militant group with alleged links to the Al Qaeda terrorist network, accusing them of plotting attacks during a major Shiite festival, officials said.

Police and intelligence agents also seized about 30 assault rifles, 10 grenades and more than 2 pounds of explosives in raids last week on homes in the eastern city of Lahore, senior police investigator Omar Virk said.

He added that “they had plans to attack Shiite processions” in Lahore.
