An arrest warrant for actor Daniel Baldwin was ordered Tuesday after he failed to show up in a Newport Beach courtroom to be arraigned on charges of stealing a friend’s sport utility vehicle, court officials said.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Peter Polos ordered the warrant for the 46-year-old brother of actors Alec, William and Stephen Baldwin.

Baldwin, a Los Angeles resident, had been scheduled to face charges that in early November, he stole a 2003 GMC Yukon from a friend who lives in Aliso Viejo.

A satellite tracking system traced the vehicle to a Santa Monica motel where Baldwin was staying. Police said they also found narcotics and drug paraphernalia in Baldwin’s room.

The actor was transferred to Orange County Jail. He was later released on $20,000 bail.

It was Baldwin’s third run-in with the law last year.

In April, he was arrested in Santa Monica on suspicion of possessing cocaine.

In July, he was arrested in Los Angeles after weaving through traffic at more than 80 mph and plowing his rented Ford Thunderbird into two parked cars, police said.

Baldwin’s manager, Dan Spilo, said in an e-mail that the warrant was “an error, and the court will probably be correcting this later in the day.”

But Farrah Emami, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney’s office, said, “There was no error. We have two felony charges on Mr. Baldwin, and he and his attorney failed to appear.”
