Grand Ave. costs

Re “66 million reasons to re-examine Grand Ave.” column, Feb. 7

Steve Lopez is way off the mark on Grand Avenue expenditures. Los Angeles needs a real downtown. Much of the completed development will be public space that will connect Bunker Hill with City Hall and other government buildings down the hill.

It’s ironic that Lopez interviewed bus riders on the Orange Line in the San Fernando Valley. Based on the riders’ logic, public money shouldn’t be spent on public transportation to help people get to Warner Center shops.
