Governor stumbles over words again

Share

Re “Latinos lob a few words at governor,” Feb. 9

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s remarks appear to underscore his ignorance of the aspirations of Mexican immigrants and his racist leanings. I don’t buy the explanation that the governor’s comments were part of a brainstorming session. This is the second time that we know about that this happened. What’s wrong with him that every time he’s brainstorming or exploring an issue he has to make insensitive racial comments?

Are Mexicans the only people who, on arriving in this country, gravitate to communities where they find others like themselves? Has he never heard of places called “Chinatown,” “Little Italy” or “Little Tokyo”? I am a Mexican immigrant, and I’d put my pronunciation of the English language against his any day.

It’s funny that Spanish-language media are giving the governor a hard time about his comments about assimilation. The very fact that Spanish media play such a large role in California shows just how right Schwarzenegger is.
