Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed one of his aides to the California Public Utilities Commission. He named Timothy Simon, his appointments secretary since January 2006, to the board, which regulates investor-owned utilities.

Simon, a 51-year-old Republican, was general counsel and chief compliance officer for Global Crown Capital, a San Francisco investment firm, before he joined the governor’s office. The nomination requires state Senate confirmation.
