From Times Wire Reports

The House overwhelmingly approved business tax breaks worth $1.8 billion over 10 years, a key step toward forging a congressional compromise on increasing the minimum wage.

Passage of a wage increase for the lowest-paid workers now depends on how quickly the House and Senate work out differences between their tax packages. The Senate tax breaks are worth $8.3 billion.

The increase would raise hourly pay from $5.15 to $7.25 over two years.
