From Times Wire Reports

President Bush, in a meeting with Salvadoran President Tony Saca, pushed for immigration reform and nudged Congress to pass a guest worker program.

Bush said Saca reminded him that temporary protected status, extended to many Salvadorans, expires in September.

Saca said more than 2 million Salvadorans are in the United States, most of them legally. Temporary protected status is given to people from countries where war or other conditions make it temporarily unsafe to return, but it doesn’t lead to permanent residency.
