Fire damages shops in Newport Beach

A flower shop, a barber shop and a law office were heavily damaged in a Sunday afternoon fire at a building in Newport Beach, fire officials said.
The blaze, which appeared to have started in the flower shop, was reported at 2:18 p.m. at the building in the 4100 block of Birch Street. It was brought under control before 3 p.m. by firefighters from Newport Beach and other Orange County agencies.
Damage was estimated at $375,000. The cause was under investigation.
