Wade’s return ends the losing for Heat

Although Dwyane Wade said he was sluggish after his four-game layoff, he didn’t really show it.

Wade returned from a wrist injury and scored 33 points to lead the Miami Heat to a 93-90 victory Sunday night over the Trail Blazers at Portland, Ore.

Wade, who had 25 points in the first half, helped Miami rally from a 16-point deficit and end a five-game losing streak.

“It was good to come out and give my teammates some confidence and pull out a win,” he said.

Brandon Roy’s three-point attempt for the Trail Blazers at the buzzer fell short. He led Portland with 18 points.

“They already knew the play. They read it,” Roy said.

Wade hadn’t played since getting knocked out of a loss at Chicago on Dec. 27.

“I could tell I was off for 10 days. I got a little tired,” he said.

The Heat is still without Shaquille O’Neal (knee), Antoine Walker and James Posey. Walker and Posey were deactivated after missing their body-fat requirements.

Miami’s Jason Kapono added 19 points, 10 in the fourth quarter.

“I told him at the end of the third quarter that I wanted him to be aggressive, like he was when I was out,” Wade said. “He’s one of the best shooters there is in the NBA.”

Wade made 15 of 17 free throws.

“Dwyane Wade, of course, was the big difference,” Portland Coach Nate McMillan said. “Not only is he hard to defend, but he gets to the free-throw line.”

Minnesota 103, Houston 99 -- Kevin Garnett had 26 points and 13 rebounds to help the Timberwolves to their third straight overtime victory while ending the Rockets’ five-game winning streak. Minnesota had won four in a row overall.

Tracy McGrady scored 31 points for Houston, which made 12 of 19 free throws while the Timberwolves made 34 of 40. McGrady sent the game into overtime on an up-and-under layup with 11.2 seconds left in regulation.

San Antonio 110, Memphis 96 -- Manu Ginobili scored a season-high 34 points to lead the Spurs at Memphis, Tenn.

Ginobili was 10 of 15 from the field, including six of eight from three-point range.

Robert Horry added 18 points to help San Antonio end its first three-game losing streak of the season while playing without point guard Tony Parker. Parker is day to day after injuring his right hip Friday against Dallas.

Pau Gasol led Memphis with 24 points.

Phoenix 128, Golden State 105 -- Leandro Barbosa scored 26 points and James Jones had 25 points for the Suns, who used an 11-0 fourth-quarter run at Phoenix for their sixth straight victory.

It was the Suns’ 22nd victory in their last 24 games.

Monta Ellis scored 22 for Golden State but committed nine of the Warriors’ 25 turnovers. Andris Biedrins matched his career high with 17 rebounds for Golden State.

Orlando 87, Boston 79 -- Grant Hill scored 21 points and Dwight Howard had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the host Magic to its fourth straight victory in a game with sloppy ballhandling and even worse shooting.

The teams had 40 total turnovers (23 for Orlando, 17 for Boston), while the Magic shot 37.5% from the field compared with Boston’s 31.5%.

Tony Allen led the Celtics with 21 points.

Toronto 116, Washington 111 -- Chris Bosh had 24 points and 15 rebounds to six double-figure scorers to help the Raptors improve to 10-5 at home.

T.J. Ford added 20 points for the Raptors, who ended the third quarter with an 11-4 run.

Gilbert Arenas had 33 points, but went seven for 19 from the field for the Wizards, whose three-game winning streak ended.
