Philanthropist John Crean dies
From a Times Staff Writer
John Crean, RV tycoon and one of Orange County’s most generous philanthropists, died Thursday at his Newport Beach home, a family friend said.
He was 81.
Crean, founder of Riverside-based Fleetwood Enterprises, which at one time was the largest manufacturer of mobile homes and trailers in the world, spent much of his later years raising money for children’s programs through his Crean Foundation.
He died of congestive heart failure following a long illness, the spokeswoman said.
A full obituary will appear in Saturday’s paper.
