Tsunami alerts issued after quake
From Times Wire Reports
Residents of two of Alaska’s Aleutian islands evacuated briefly after officials issued a tsunami warning after an 8.3-magnitude earthquake in the northern Pacific. A tsunami watch was also issued briefly for Hawaii.
The quake reportedly struck about 300 miles east of the Kuril Islands between northern Japan and Russia.
The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center canceled the alerts after waves of only inches reached Alaska.
