Possible answers to gang problem

Re “L.A. to seek a tax to fight gangs,” Jan. 24

Gang prevention programs have been around for decades with little success. If the city wants to tax me to prevent gang activity, then put the dollars into more Los Angeles police officers on the streets, where it might do some good.

Stop penalizing law-abiding homeowners who spend enough on alarm systems and gang-graffiti removal from their property. Enforce existing laws. The city attorney and City Council members should stop wasting our money on ridiculous settlements and judgments. We don’t trust you to spend our money.

Let’s levy a tax on the gangs and see how long they’ll want to be banging. Let’s stop taxing ourselves for every problem that comes along and take it to the source.

Just outlaw criminal gangs and fine anyone thereafter for any and all gang activities. Perhaps a $10,000 fine as well as guaranteed jail time for any gang activity would dry up this scourge.

Hit them in their wallets and make it unaffordable to be stupid.
