Girl’s alleged biter pleads not guilty

A man accused of biting off the lip and ear of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter pleaded not guilty in New Bedford and was ordered held without bail.
Bryan James, 34, was charged with assault and battery upon a child causing substantial bodily injuries. Police said doctors could not fully fix the damage. They said they believed the man had been biting her for months. Her mother pleaded not guilty to intimidating a witness and to allowing substantial injuries to a child younger than 14.
