From Times Wire Reports

The state Supreme Court said it would not get involved in a dispute about where to hold a criminal trial for the leader of a polygamous sect.

Attorneys for Warren Jeffs had asked the court to review a decision by Judge James Shumate, who is keeping the Sept. 10 trial in St. George. They want to shift the case to Salt Lake City, claiming Jeffs can’t get a fair trial because of excess publicity. Jeffs, 51, is charged with two first-degree felony counts of rape as an accomplice in the 2001 “spiritual marriage” of a 14-year-old and her 19-year-old cousin.
