UC Irvine pediatrics program given $5 million
UC Irvine has received a $5-million donation for the Department of Pediatrics from an anonymous Los Angeles businessman, officials said Tuesday.
The endowment is the single largest contribution in the department’s history, they said.
Dr. Feizal Waffarn, chairman of the department, said in a news release that he “would like to establish endowed chairs for new programs ... to attract the best research talent and improve care for Orange County’s children.”
The donation comes less than a week after UCI’s business school revealed that it had received $6.6 million from retired aerospace executive Don Beall to support research in entrepreneurship and innovation.
