L.A. teens get hip-hop Access

Eric Holt and Jordan Llavanes are working on becoming teenage millionaires. Or at the very least, successful club promoters. Holt, 18, and Llavanes, 19, teamed up with the owner of L.A.’s Realest, 20-year-old promoter Steven Ojo, to pump up the volume on an all-ages Monday-night club called Access. L.A.’s Realest is a youth-oriented promotions company and through good word of mouth, Access has become the largest teenage hip-hop club in L.A. Although it moves from venue to venue, holing up at such clubs as Forbidden City, the Bee (formerly Larchmont), Sports Club, Cinespace and Pearl, Access attracts young hip-hop fans angling to show their moves. “Our focus of the club was to get kids off the street during summer and into an environment that’s safe,” Holt says. “We hire a lot of security and invite patrol cars to come by and make sure everything is secure.” DJ Mustard provides the tunes, and although the partners primarily mount events during the summer months, they’re also known for their “SAT After-Parties.”

Sugar snags a sweet booking

There should be a line forming in Hollywood right about now outside Sugar (formerly Xes) for tonight’s performance by Expensive Taste, a.k.a. rapper Paul Wall, Skinhead Rob and Travis Barker.... Mike Boogie plans to celebrate his birthday next Thursday at Les Deux, which turns a year old on that night. Boogie, who co-owns the popular Hollywood nightclub, will be giving folks a sneak peek inside Short Bus, a vintage yellow school bus that shuttles scenesters around. Despite a nappy exterior, Short Bus is loaded with options.... Will Shamlian (Library Bar/Sapphire/Chalet) helped his brother Rob get started in the bar biz on New York’s Lower East Side and now he’s moving in too. After a career as a fashion photographer, Rob Shamlian opened the East Side bar Dark Room, which led to his other East Side hotspot, Fat Baby. Now both brothers are opening up a “gastropub” called Spitzer’s Corner, located at the site of a former dress shop on Rivington Street.... The Cat Club turns 8 years old tonight. The Sunset Strip rock bar’s owner, Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom, is hosting a blowout; look for a hot set by the Alarm, which is currently on tour with the Psychedelic Furs.... Veteran promoter Rick Calamaro is co-hosting a new nightly poolside party for summertime dubbed “Twilights in the Backyard,” which makes its debut at 5 p.m. tomorrow at the W Hotel in Westwood.
