* at Chicago 12, San Francisco 1: Catcher Koyie Hill drove in a career-high five runs on a pair of doubles, and Carlos Zambrano pitched five shutout innings to become the league’s first 12-game winner. “I will try to win 20 games. After 16, after 17, it’s good for a pitcher,” Zambrano said. “I just want to help this team to go to the playoffs.” Barry Bonds was held out of the Giants’ starting lineup for the third consecutive day to rest his sore legs.

* Cincinnati 5, at Atlanta 4 (15 innings): Brandon Phillips’ two-run single gave the Reds their first three-game sweep in Atlanta since April 1990. The Braves signed 48-year-old infielder Julio Franco, a week after he was released by the New York Mets.

* Colorado 5, Pittsburgh 3: Brad Hawpe and Todd Helton each hit two-run homers. Jeff Francis (10-5), who won his fifth decision in a row, is 9-1 in his last 13 starts.
