Beckham gets an L.A. welcome

Posh may have been the center of the fashion frenzy since Team Beckham rolled into town, but there’s at least one store trying to capitalize on her sweatier half. Alpha, a men’s boutique in West Hollywood, has dedicated its window display to soccer star David Beckham.

The two windows fronting Melrose Avenue read: “David Beckham Meet Your New Favorite Store ... Welcome Mate!” and are stocked with the contents of a specially compiled “Welcome to L.A. Kit” for the Brit transplant.

Many of the items make sense -- shaving soap from London’s Geo. F. Trumper (a nod to his home country), a guide to Southern California surf spots and a photo compilation titled “Hollywood Dads” (he technically is one now). Others are little more quixotic -- like “The Pop-Up Book of Celebrity Meltdowns,” scented candles and a book on Marlon Brando.

But perhaps the most ill-advised item in the kit is a pair of Andrew Christian underwear emblazoned with a black-and-white soccer ball print. Is that really such a good gift idea for a guy whose co-workers kick soccer balls for a living?
