Beazer says SEC starts formal probe

Beazer Homes USA Inc. said the Securities and Exchange Commission began a formal investigation of possible securities law violations at the company.
The Atlanta-based home builder, which also faces an FBI probe of possible mortgage fraud, last month fired its chief accounting officer for allegedly attempting to destroy documents during an internal probe of the company’s mortgage unit.
A spokesman for the SEC declined to comment. A Beazer spokeswoman couldn’t be reached for comment.
