Iraqi crime and punishment

Re “Iraq jails in ‘appalling’ state,” July 21

We invade a country, overthrow the government, destroy the army and a large portion of the infrastructure and the ability of the country to provide services, then we allow hundreds of people -- many of them not guilty of any crime -- to be jailed in abominable conditions, and we say, “It’s not our responsibility!” Is it any wonder we are becoming a hated country? This type of behavior is a stain on the honor and tradition of the United States, thanks again to the corrupt regime of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Why such pity for these alleged criminals? These are the ones who are more likely the cause of the continuation of this conflict. The more they suffer a little inconvenience, maybe they will furnish information needed by the coalition forces. What a waste of newspaper space.
