Just hanging with her boys

THE TBS sitcom “My Boys” returns for Season 2 on Monday, preceded by a Season 1 marathon on Sunday. Series star Jordana Spiro says playing Chicago sportswriter PJ Franklin isn’t much of a stretch. “She’s kind of a guy’s girl in that she loves poker and hanging out with her guy friends so much that she has trouble coming up with a guy of her own,” says the unmarried L.A. resident. “I do have a lot of male friends, and I’d rather go camping than, say, have a spa weekend. But I’m a little more girlie than PJ.”

Thai food heaven

On a Friday night I like to go to this Thai restaurant in Hollywood called Sanam Luang. It’s always crowded and super-casual -- their patio is in the parking lot. I go with a bunch of friends, and we look at the pictures on the menu and just point like monkeys and hope for the best. We always seem to do all right. The restaurant is across the street from Jumbo’s Clown Room, a strip club that I got dragged into once. I wouldn’t put it on my favorites list, but the people there seemed to be enjoying it. After dinner we’d go to one of the Thai bakeries in the area and grab something sweet. Then we might stop off at Spaceland in Silver Lake. I always end up dancing, which for me is just kind of jumping up and down. I also love the back patio at the Edendale Grill. It’s a beautiful oasis, perfect for a nightcap.

Have a laugh

After sleeping in on Saturday I’ll go have breakfast at Toast. If I’m being good, it will be fruit, yogurt and granola. If I’m being bad, it would be waffles. It might depend on if there’s a certain dress I’m going to need to get into on Monday.

After that, I have friends doing a lot of cool and creative things around the city, and I love to check out what they’re up to. One photographer friend named Patrick Ecclesine has an incredible exhibit at the ArcLight called “Faces of Sunset Boulevard,” portraits of all kinds of people along the boulevard from Pacific Palisades to downtown. It’s so cool -- just a beautiful display of how diverse L.A. is.

I also like to browse around in Ace Gallery; there are two here, but I like the one in Beverly Hills. I’ve seen an exhibit there by Erwin Redl -- art made from lighting fixtures. In the evening, if I was feeling upscale, I’d go downtown to Blue Velvet, which has a great view and some interesting tastes in its food. For instance, they have goat cheese ice cream. But if I was looking for something cozy and romantic, I’d go to Cliff’s Edge in Silver Lake.

After dinner, I might check out the Improv, Acme Comedy Theatre or the Improv Olympic West. A couple of the guys from “My Boys,” Jamie Kaler and Mike Bunin, perform there a lot.

Might as well jump

I think the point of Sunday is to do very little and to do it very slowly. I’d start by going to breakfast at Figtree’s Cafe in Venice, right where the boardwalk gets, well, really colorful? I’d have an omelet or their great cornmeal pancakes. Then something I did on vacation in Venezuela but haven’t done here yet: paragliding. You basically run as fast as you can and then jump off a cliff. The jumping off is the only scary part, but then you’re home free. I think there’s a place to do it in Malibu. I’ll use this article to challenge myself to do it again. But maybe I’d better do that before breakfast.
