She has nothing to be afraid of, for a change

ACTRESS Bijou Phillips was born into celebrity, the daughter of ‘60s music icon John Phillips and his actress-wife Genevieve Waite. Bijou’s half-sister Mackenzie was an adolescent pop-culture queen via the George Lucas classic “American Graffiti” and TV’s “One Day at a Time.”

Bijou would make a name for herself modeling and acting as well as being on air-kissing terms with the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, back when those gals were still free to roam the streets. These days Bijou’s never been busier, with four films in the can, including “Hostel: Part II,” which opens Friday.

Bookworm

On a Friday night I’d head out to Bodhi Tree Bookstore on Melrose and pick up a couple of books. Maybe “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, or “The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter,” which I’m actually reading right now and really loving it. The Bodhi’s great because the staff is so knowledgeable.

Once I got my reading material, I’d be off for Two Bunch Palms Resort & Spa in Desert Hot Springs. They have a natural hot spring grotto, and it used to be Al Capone’s hide-out. It’s very tranquil, and I can get a lot of reading done. For dinner I’d go to the Cliffhouse in La Quinta. As you might guess, it’s built into the side of a cliff, and they have really yummy steaks and potatoes. I used to go there with my dad when he had a house in Palm Springs.

Hollywood night

On Saturday morning I’d get up and go to the little restaurant at Two Bunch and have the breakfast buffet with fresh-squeezed everything. Then I’d go down and get a massage outdoors and drop into the mud bath. I’d rinse off, get in my car and head over to Tahquitz Canyon. There’s a hike there where you walk along a series of waterfalls that go all the way up the mountain. At the end, you can swim out to a big rock and stand under the falls and let the water hit you.

I’d stop for lunch at a little Mexican restaurant with really good margaritas, or I’d get back in my car and jump on the 10 Freeway heading back to L.A. and stop at the last outlet mall and go to a place called Hadley’s. It’s been there for years, and they have delicious banana-date shakes and ostrich burgers. You can watch a movie on how they harvest the dates.

I’d take my time driving back to L.A. and rest up a bit. In the evening, I’d get dressed up and go get a burger at the 25 Degrees restaurant at the Hollywood Roosevelt. Then I’d stop by Teddy’s nightclub there and dance around.

Dogs and coyotes

On Sunday morning I’d take my two Chihuahuas, Edmund and Jack, to Bronson Canyon. Did you know that coyotes won’t eat Chihuahuas? They respect them as fellow desert creatures. There are packs of wild Chihuahuas in the deserts of Mexico. Anyway, after that I’d go pick up my mom in Topanga Canyon and drive over Mulholland to Malibu Lagoon and then go to John’s Garden. I’d have a garden burger and a strawberry lemonade that’s so good it will change your life.

Then I’d go over to El Matador Beach and walk around the rocks. And later, I’d go to the jazz club at Guy’s on Beverly. They have great live music until 2 a.m. and sometimes we get up and sing or just have some magical dance-off. It’s really fun.
