From Times Wire Reports

Andy Roddick won his fourth Queen’s Club title Sunday, saving match point in the second set before beating Nicolas Mahut, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (2), in London.

Roddick, seeded second, also won from 2003 to ’05 and joined Lleyton Hewitt, Boris Becker and John McEnroe as four-time winners of this event.

“I think it’s nice winning at tournaments that you really enjoy playing at,” Roddick said. “To have won four is great. I’ll have a number of chances to get five. My focus right now is on getting No. 1 at Wimbledon.”

Mahut, who beat French Open champion Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals, was not broken once in the match. Roddick served 24 aces and had only one break point.

Second-seeded Jelena Jankovic won her fourth title of the year, beating top-seeded Maria Sharapova, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, to capture the grass-court DFS Classic in Birmingham, England.

Both players had to win semifinal matches earlier in the day at the rain-affected tournament. Sharapova also had two matches Saturday.

It was Jankovic’s first title on grass.

Fourth-seeded Tomas Berdych won the Gerry Weber Open, beating Marcos Baghdatis, 7-5, 6-4, in Halle, Germany.

Gaston Gaudio, the 2004 French Open champion, withdrew from Wimbledon.

Beckham celebrates

in Real Madrid finale

David Beckham was minutes away from a perfect ending.

Beckham, who likely played his last pro game in Europe, was taken off the field moments before Real Madrid rallied to win the Spanish league title for the first time in Beckham’s four years with the team.

He was replaced in the 66th minute with what appeared to be a recurrence of an ankle injury. But he still limped around the field in celebration after his team beat Mallorca, 3-1, to win its 30th league title in Madrid, Spain.

“It has been possibly the toughest season of my career on and off the field,” said Beckham, who is scheduled to make his debut with the Galaxy next month.
