Man sentenced for scam at Leisure World
A Redding man convicted of bilking Leisure World residents out of $5 million was sentenced Monday to 7 1/2 years in prison and ordered to pay $1.23 million in restitution.
Christopher Peter Cook, 39, was sentenced by a federal judge in Los Angeles. He had been convicted in 2004 of mail fraud and money laundering in connection with an investment scheme that targeted the elderly at the Laguna Woods and Seal Beach communities.
During the trial, several victims testified that Cook and his accomplices cost them their life savings.
