O.C. toll-road delay welcomed

Re “Schedule for O.C. toll road set back two years,” March 1

I do not find it surprising that this bad idea for traffic relief in south Orange County has been delayed. The Irvine-based Transportation Corridor Agencies has continually demonstrated its inability to find, plan and financially manage the construction of sensible solutions to our traffic problems. Planning to put an expensive toll road through the beloved and highly used San Onofre State Park, the Donna O’Neill Land Conservancy and the world-renowned surfing mecca of Trestles only reveals the arrogance and ineptitude in thinking that this solution would provide the sensible, environmentally based and economically justified solution that we all want.

As someone who has enjoyed San Onofre, especially the San Mateo campground, I am relieved to hear about a delay of the Foothill-South Toll Road. It is unfortunate that any green zones are becoming a hot commodity in Southern California, and I wonder if we’ll have any left for our future children.
