Mayor freed after gun probation bust

The state Supreme Court ordered Jackson’s mayor released from jail by vacating his arrest on suspicion of violating his probation on a misdemeanor gun charge. Presiding Justice William Waller Jr. issued the order without comment.
“It was quite a humbling experience,” Mayor Frank Melton, 57, said after his release, noting that he had been put to work cleaning bathrooms.
