Evening workout isn’t for everyone

Share

The March 5 article by Jeannine Stein [“Put Off That Workout”] suggests that everyone, based on circadian rhythms, would benefit from exercising in the evening. However interesting the study, this conclusion would at best be useful only for the elite athlete, not the majority of adults.

This very small, single study was accomplished in a highly controlled setting that cannot transfer to a public health recommendation, which is essentially what the headline of the article suggests. Most “average” physically active adults remain best served by exercising whenever their schedule permits. And for most, just before bedtime is proven to be more disruptive to sleep.

The focus on this story was a stretch, and not one that will improve the health outcomes for most of your readers.
