* Microsoft Corp. is negotiating to buy Mountain View, Calif.-based Tellme Networks Inc. for $800 million, a deal that would give the software giant voice- recognition programs for mobile-phone Internet searches, people with knowledge of the talks said. The acquisition would be Microsoft’s largest since the 2002 purchase of software maker Navision A/S for $1.45 billion.

* San Jose-based Cisco Systems Inc. said it agreed to buy NeoPath Networks to gain the Santa Clara, Calif., company’s storage technology. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

* GateHouse Media Inc. agreed to buy nine daily and weekly newspapers in Ohio and Illinois from La Jolla-based Copley Press Inc. for $380 million.
