Juvenile halls, probation camps to get more staff
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved spending $1.7 million to fund 90 new positions in the juvenile halls and probation camps to improve conditions there.
The jobs for custodians, secretaries, probation officers, technology specialists and others are part of the county Probation Department’s ongoing efforts to improve conditions for juvenile offenders.
The county is trying to fulfill Justice Department requirements for reforming the three juvenile halls. Federal officials are evaluating the camps.
The county has added more than 700 Probation Department positions since 2004.
