Gay couple unite under new law
From Times Wire Reports
Journalist Antonio Medina, 38, and economist Jorge Cerpa, 31, became the first couple united under Mexico City’s new gay civil union law.
After dating for four years and three months, the two signed documents in front of the government offices for the Iztapalapa borough. Police cordoned off streets around a white tent filled with guests.
The law, which took effect Friday, grants same-sex couples inheritance rights and social benefits similar to those given married heterosexual couples.
